How to Use EndNote online

1. What is EndNote online?
"EndNote online" is web-based reference management software provided by Clarivate.
This service is provided through the "Web of Science" contracted by the University of Tokyo. Those who belong to the University of Tokyo can use it for free (limited to the period when the University of Tokyo has a contract for Web of Science).
It can be used in a variety of situations in research, education, and work.
It's different from the desktop version of "EndNote" and the free version of "EndNote basic" that is not bundled with Web of Science. Compared to the free version, EndNote online gives you a larger selection of styles to use when creating a citation list.

2. Features of EndNote online
- A wide variety of formats (output styles) are available for English bibliographies.
- The interface language supports eight languages, including Japanese.
- Bibliographic information can be easily imported from Web of Science.
- It can also be used on iOS devices by syncing with the mobile app version.
- It is necessary to install the dedicated app "EndNote for iOS" (free) on your iOS device.
- Citations can be inserted into Word.
- It is necessary to install dedicated plug-in "Cite While You Write (CWYW)" (free) in Word.
3. User Registration
When using EndNote online for the first time, Web of Science user registration is required as a member of the University of Tokyo.

- [On campus] Access "Web of Science" from the on-campus network.
[Off campus] Click "Access to Database (EZproxy)" from "Web of Science" in the Database List on the website of the University of Tokyo Library system. - Click "Register" at the top right of the screen.
- Enter the required information and register as a user.
* If you create an account from off campus without going through EZproxy, you will be registered for the free version (EndNote basic). In that case, you can change your EndNote online to account settings of the University of Tokyo by logging in from an on-campus terminal.
[Those who have a Web of Science account (no need to re-register)]
The following people do not need to register as a user. If you log in from an on-campus terminal, the settings will change to the Web of Science bundled version of "EndNote online."
- Those who are registered users of Web of Science
- Those who have registered for the free version of "EndNote basic" that is not bundled with Web of Science
4. Access Method
After user registration, you can use the service in the following way.

Enter your registered email address and password to sign in from Products → "EndNote" at the top of the screen.
[Common to on campus and off campus] https://www.myendnoteweb.com
Enter your registered email address and password in the left column of the screen to sign in.
* Do not use this URL for your initial user registration. If you register using this URL, you will be registered for the free version.

6. Use after Graduation/Separation
If you no longer belong to an organization contracting Web of Science due to graduation or other reasons, EndNote online will automatically switch to the free version, "EndNote basic," one year after your last access from the on-campus network. The main difference is significant limits to the output styles of citation lists you can create.
There is an individual paid version, so you can switch to it.
