Alumni Library Pass

Alumni

  • Alumni who have the Alumni Library Pass can enter the General Library whenever it is open.
  • They can also enter Komaba Library, Kashiwa Library, Medical Library, University Library for Agricultural and Life Sciences and Faculty of Letters Building 3 Library.
  • Borrowing, inter-library loan, ECCS terminals are not available.
  • Accompanying persons, including preschool children, are not permitted in the library. Caregivers are excluded.
  • If you borrow books in order to write your doctoral thesis after leaving UTokyo at maturity, please consult at the General Library counter.
  • Services listed below are not available;
    • Borrowing of materials or access to the stack.
    • Materials delivery services from other libraries or issuing letters of introduction to other libraries.
    • Use of UTokyo Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi of the University of Tokyo).
    • Use of ECCS Room terminals.

Services

1.Browse

  • You can browse Open-shelf Materials and Unbound journals.
  • Please write down the call numbers and titles of materials request available a request form at Stack Counter.
    The service is available from 9:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 17:00 on weekdays.
  • Please request via OPAC in the library to use Automated Storage Materials.

2.Photocopying

  • You can copy under copyright law.
  • Before copying, Stack materials should be checked by library staff to determine whether they can be copied using the photocopy machine.
    *Stack materials are not available on Weekends and Holidays.
  • Photocopy machines are located on 1st floor (Two photocopiers for use with prepaid library photocopying cards / coin, and one photocopier for use with coin).
    • Procedures for photocopying: Fill out required form in copier room
    • Materials for which photocopying is prohibited : Rare books and other similar materials
  • Cost per sheet copied: 10yen / color 50yen
  • Photocopying hours: During opening hours

3.Reference

  • The General Library will respond questions and inquiries about the University of Tokyo and Collection of the University of Tokyo.

Eligible persons

  • Those who graduated the faculties or finished graduate courses of the University of Tokyo.
  • Following is not eligible : former research students, auditing students and dropped-out students.

Application time and place

  • Place : Reception desk or Service Counter on the 1st floor
  • Time : Weekdays 9:00-17:00

Required Documents

  • Application Form to Pass to University of Tokyo Library System
    • You can find the form at the library counter or download the PDF file from here.
  • Certificate of graduation or completion
    • Please bring the original certificate.
    • You can be issued it at the academic affairs office.
  • Identification
    • Official identification with your name and address.

You can order by mail for new issuance or replacement for lost card.

  • Enclose a copy of the identification instead of the identification itself.
  • Write down on the envelope "Enclosing application form to library pass"

If you lost a pass, contact us and apply for replacement.

更新の手続き

入館証の有効期間は、3年度後の7月31日です。有効期限が過ぎたら図書館にて更新手続きをしてください。期限が過ぎた後の平日開館日9:00-17:00であれば、いつでも更新可能です。

更新は来館またはWebで受け付けます。以下のものが必要です。

  • 入館証
  • 入館証交付申請書
    総合図書館1階に備え付けてあります。または、以下からダウンロードしてください。
  • 本人確認書類
    • 氏名・現住所の記載がある、公的な身分証です。
      【例】
      • 運転免許証
      • 旅券(パスポート)※現住所を記入済みの「所持人記入欄」がある場合に限り有効
      • 健康保険証
      • マイナンバーカード

姓が変わった方は、新しい姓で入館証を作り直すことができます。ご希望の場合は、カウンターでお問い合わせください(新しい入館証を即時お渡しできるのは、平日開館日の9:00-17:00のみです)。名が変わられた場合は事前にご相談ください。

Unemployed PhD holder

  • We will issue the library card to Unemployed PhD holder who continues the research after coursework completed without degree in a doctoral course of the University of Tokyo.
    *The card is not available in other libraries.
  • Services listed below are not available;
    • Use of Tokyo University libraries other than the General Library (including Komaba Library, Kashiwa Library, and faculty-specific libraries).
    • Borrowing of materials or access to the stack.
    • Materials delivery services from other libraries or issuing letters of introduction to other libraries.
    • Use of UTokyo Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi of the University of Tokyo).
    • Use of ECCS Room terminals.

Eligible persons

  • Those who completed coursework without degree in a doctoral course of the University of Tokyo within 3 years.

Expiration date

  • Until the end of March of the year you applied. (Renewal is approved 3 years at the longest)

How to apply

  • Please come to Service Counter on the 1st floor between 9a.m and 5 p.m. At that time following documents are required. 
    Documents (1) and (2) are distributed at Service Counter.
    (1)「総合図書館の利用について(依頼)」(Recommendation)
    (2)「東京大学附属図書館利用証交付申請書」
    (3)Official identification with your name and address 
  • Reception hours: 9:00-17:00 on weekdays. *Excluding closed day.

Notes

  • An official seal of dean and seal and name of Full-time faculty (Professor or Associate professor is in the University of Tokyo) are required for the recommendation. 
  • If you are graduate student now, please apply after April. If you still have books from the UTokyo libraries, we cannot accept your application. 
  • Reception for renewal starts March. Please submit the above documents (1) -(3) again. But the faculty recommends you will be needed to belong to the University of Tokyo after April.
  • After the period, please return the library card to the General Library.
