Usage of General Library materials for external users (by reservation in advance)

Members of the general public with no affiliation to the University of Tokyo may use the General Library only for the purpose of academic research and investigation.
Visitors must make a reservation in advance.

 

Please check the following and then make a reservation using the application form.
If you received the confirmation mail and did not receive any correspondences from us, you would use on the reserved date and time.
* If you do not receive a confirmation email within one hour after submitting the form, please contact us via the Inquiry Form.

Notice: Users who have a valid Library card/pass can use the general library without reservation.

User Status

Persons in need of General Library materials who do not have any of the followings;

  • UTokyo library card (includes the UTokyo ID card that registered to the UTokyo libraries)
  • UTokyo library pass
  • The general library card
  • The general library pass

Materials in the General Library
Materials ONLY indicated as “Gen.XXX” in the Location section of the OPAC are eligible for this application.
If you want to use other materials, please refer to the link in the Location section for information on how to use the holding library.

Reception Duration From 10 to 3 weekdays in advance of the date you wish to visit (exclude Saturday, Sunday, national holiday, and summer and winter break).
Hours

Up to 2 hours during 9:00 – 17:00 Weekdays (except closing day)
If you need more than 2 hours with specific reason, please state your reason and preferable length of stay in the message section.

How to Use
  1. Apply from “Application Form” at the end of this page.

  2. Confirmation mail will be sent to your filled e-mail address.
    * If application is declined; correspondence e-mail will be sent. No response from the library for accepted application.

  3. Please come to the General Library reception at the appointed date and time.
Conditions to Use
  • For touring in the General Library is NOT eligible for this service
  • Reservation is required. No admittance without reservation.
  • Please present the following ID when you visit
    • A member of a research institute: ID card issued by the institute
    • Other users: Official ID with your name and current address
  • Please wear face masks in the library.
  • Keep your visit minimal and no longer than 2 hours. You may not stay in the library after you have finished using the materials you requested. If you wish to use additional materials, please let us know.
  • Search and find the materials on the OPAC carefully and apply with the complete information.
  • If you wish to confirm the materials are available, please fill in the message section with the title and call number of the material. (If you need to confirm our holding information, please let us know via inquiry form.)

  • Please note that we don't put the books other than stack materials on hold and also some books will not be available if the book is being used by someone else on the day.

  • Please use the designated desk. There are limited numbers of the desks so your application might be declined by e-mail when there is no vacancy.
  • Accompanying persons, including preschool children, are not permitted in the library. Caregivers are excluded.
