Admission

Current students or faculty of the University of Tokyo

  • A student ID, faculty ID card or professor emeritus (with an IC chip) is required to enter the General Library.
  • In some cases, it is necessary to register or renew your ID at your faculty library. If there is no library in your faculty, please ask at the General Information Desk.
  • If you don't have an ID card, please contact your faculty library.

Alumni

  • A "University of Tokyo Library Pass" is required to enter the General Library. With this pass, you can use the General Library during its open hours. (On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, only books and journals in the open-shelf section are available.) For more information about how to get a library pass, please visit the following web-page.

    Those without a pass can use the library on the same terms as members of the general public.

External Users

Please make a reservation at least 3 weekdays in advance through the General Library website. Please see the following page for details on how to make a reservation. If you have received a reservation receipt e-mail and have not received any special communication from the General Library, you can use the library on the reserved date and time.

【Usage of General Library materials for Non U-Tokyo Members (by reservation in advance)】

Accompanying pre-school children

  • Usage of UTokyo Members:
    You may bring their pre-school children with you, although there are restrictions on use. For details, please refer to the Service Contents ‘Support for users who need special assistance’.
     

  • Usage of Non-UTokyo Members:
    Accompanying persons, including preschool children, are not permitted in the library. Caregivers are excluded.
