Admission

Current students or faculty of the University of Tokyo

  • A student ID, faculty ID card or professor emeritus (with an IC chip) is required to enter the General Library.
  • In some cases, it is necessary to register or renew your ID at your faculty library. If there is no library in your faculty, please ask at the General Information Desk.
  • If you don't have an ID card, please contact your faculty library.

Alumni

  • A "University of Tokyo Library Pass" is required to enter the General Library. With this pass, you can use the General Library during its open hours. (On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, only books and journals in the open-shelf section are available.) For more information about how to get a library pass, please visit the following web-page.

    Those without a pass can use the library on the same terms as members of the general public.

Others

  • Students and staff of Japanese national universities
    Please fill out the application for a one-day pass and show your university ID card at the reception desk during open hours. You can use the General Library not only on weekdays but also on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. (On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, only books and journals in the open-shelf section are available.)
     
  • Students and staff of other universities
    Please fill out the application for a one-day pass and show your university ID card at the reception desk from 9:00 to 17:00 on weekdays. If you bring a letter of referral , you may use the General Library continuously for an extend  of period up to two weeks, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. (On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, only books and journals in the open-shelf section are available.)
     
  • General Public
    Please fill out the application for a one-day pass and show your ID (passport, alien registration card, etc.) at the reception desk from 9:00 to 17:00 on weekdays.

Babies and Infants

  • Accompanied by ID holder:
    No entry to the reading rooms, Media Plaza, or stacks. Library facilities are not infant-friendly. Accompanying adults are responsible for the actions of their charge.
    Please be informed that library staff may ask library users accompanied by babies/infants to leave if they are causing a disturbance to other users.
     
  • Accompanied by non-ID holder:No entry to the library.
