[For UTokyo Members] Visit the General Library

Who can visit the UTokyo General Library?

University members or library card holders may take their family, friends, or Juniors at your alma mater to look around the General Library.

  • UTokyo Members and library card holders who wish to visit the library can come directly to the library with their companions.
  • Please read the "Precautions" before visiting the library.

How to visit

  • Please register at the reception desk of the General Library during the opening hours of the library.
    • You may visit the library at any time during the general library's opening hours. However, please arrive at least 30 minutes before the library closes.
  • No reservations are required.
  • There should be approximately 5 people per group.
    • If your group will be larger than 10 people, please contact us via the Inquiry Form at least 3 weekdays before your visit (exclude Saturday, Sunday, national holiday, and summer and winter break).

Required Documents

Please bring one of the following;

  • UTokyo ID card or Library card (student card, staff ID card, etc. that has been registered for use)
    UTokyo ID card or Library card is required to enter the General Library.
    • [For Faculty & Staff] Please register or renew your ID card with your department/office (or confirm that your card is available) before coming to the General library.
      • The expiration date on the front of the ID card and the expiration date of the library registration may be different.
      • You can check if your library registration is valid by logging in to the MyOPAC or by passing through the entrance gate. Please be sure to check in advance.
    • [For Students] You can enter the library by entering your contact information, etc. in the UTAS at least one day in advance.
  • Library Pass
    • Visitors with valid library pass will be allowed to enter the library. If your library pass is expired, please renew your library pass in advance.
    • Renewal applications are accepted in person or via the web.
    • Alumni who do not have a library pass are asked to apply for one in advance. ->For details

*Please note that if the leader of the group does not have a valid library card, the visit will not be permitted.

Please note that passes for other libraries will not be accepted.

Precautions

  • No staff guide will be provided.
  • Library materials, reading seats, and PCs are not available.
  • Taking photos and videos are prohibited in the library.
  • Eating and drinking are not allowed.
  • Restrooms are not available.
  • Only areas designated by the library are accessible.

  • Please leave within 15 minutes.
  • Please be quiet so as not to disturb users.
  • Since there is a limit to the number of visitors at the same time, visitors may have to wait if there is a conflict with other tours.

The General Library is a facility designed to support educational and research activities. Access to the library is not permitted if there is a risk of interfering with the purpose of this facility, such as inclusion in a sightseeing tour. In addition, if you do not agree with the above precautions, you will not be allowed to enter the library. We ask for your understanding and cooperation in maintaining the learning environment in the library.
