We digitized the documents written by Tashiro Yasusada and make them accessible online.

Tashiro Yasusada (1857-1928) was a botanist and his research also covers anthropology and folklore studies. He conducted surveys in Okinawa, especially in Yaeyama region. His reports on Okinawa were submitted to the Anthropological Institute of the College of Science, Imperial University of Tokyo.

These reports are valuable for Okinawa studies and anthropology. In addition, since they includes various contents such as mathematics, geography, linguistics, literature, art, ritual, and customs, we hope the documents will be used by many people.

Based on these books, Hasebe Kotondo from the Anthropological Institute published Okinawa ketsujoko [沖繩結繩考] after Tashiro's death.
