Introduction Movie of the General Library
An introductory movie (about 4 minutes) of the General Library is available. You can also get a glimpse of the interior of the building.
The University of Tokyo Campus Tour
The General Library is included in the route of the campus tour organized by the University of Tokyo (you will not enter the building). We hope you will join us on this tour, which will take you around some of the most famous places on campus.
Types of Visit and How to Apply
- Public Viewing
- Business Visits
A: Visitors accompanied by UTokyo member or alumni
- Non members of UTokyo accompanied by UTokyo members or Alumni can visit the General Library.

- Only in August-September and February-March, Unaccompanied visits by UTokyo members or alumni are permitted. For details as below,
◆General Library Building Tours
The General Library will offer building tours for the public from August 1, 2024 (Thursday) to September 2024, starting from the following dates.
1. August 2024 will be conducted on the following dates and times.
September will be announced as soon as it is determined.
※Tours may be cancelled or changed in case of inclement weather or other circumstances.

2. Details of the tour
Guided tours will be conducted by the library staff (Japanese only, for about 30 minutes).
3. Visitors
Elementary school students and older
(Elementary and junior high school students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.)
4. How to participate
Please gather at the main entrance on the 1st floor of the General Library 5 minutes prior to the start of the time you wish to attend.
No reservations are required. No one will be allowed to wait inside the library even if you arrive before the time.
5. Notes
-Materials are not for use.
-Photography is not allowed.
-Do not bring food or beverages (cup beverages, etc.).
-You may not use the restrooms in the library.
-Please refrain from bringing large luggage (no lockers available).
6. Please note that the General Library is not a tourist facility.
There are many students, faculty members, and researchers studying and conducting research in the library. Please refrain from talking with them in the library and follow the instructions of the library staff.
We ask for your understanding and cooperation in maintaining the learning environment.
Business Visits
If you would like to visit us for a tour or interview, please contact us at least one month in advance at the contact information in the "Interviews and Business Visits" section of the link below. We will review your request and contact you if we can arrange a tour or interview.

Note for Visitors
- There is no guide excluding the Building Tours. Please explore the library within the open areas. Do not enter the closed area for visitors.

During the visit, library materials, books, journals, reading seat, computers and other resouces are not available to the visitors.
- Taking pictures in the library is prohibited.

Eating and drinking are not allowed during the visit.
- Please keep quiet in the library.
For the purpose of maintaining learning environment, we only accept the visit whose understands and observes these notes. Thank you for your understanding.
