For Visitors

About

  • Science Library is open to non-member of the University of Tokyo who wish to use materials in the library. Please check this page before comming to the library.
  • If a public library has materials you want, please use that library.
  • A letter of introduction from your institution or public library is not required.

Hours

○ Science Library (3rd floor, Faculty of Science Bldg.1 Area East) 9:00 - 17:00, weekdays only

○ Library of Chemistry (4th floor, Chemistry Main Building) 9:30 - 17:00, weekdays only

  • You need the procedure when entering and exiting the library. Please talk to the staff at the service desk.
  • Please finish all use of the library until 17:00.

Use

  • Visitors can enter the library for using materials in the library. 
  • Some materials cannot be used immediately. Although it is not required, we recommend that you let us know in advance by e-mail which materials you would like to use and the date and time. We will check the availability of the materials and reply to you. 
  • You can check materials are held or not in the library on UTokyo OPAC. If you click "Location" in the search results, you can see where is the materials in opening shelves or the procedure for using them in closing shelves.
  • You have to use some materials at a specific seat, such as theses and materials in closing shelves. Please follow the instructions of the staff.
  • Databases, E-books, and E-journals are not available.
  • Materials cannot be checked out.
  • Photography is not permitted in the library.

Photocopy

  • There are no copy machines available for use by visitors. Please consult the staff if you want to make photocopies.
  • Please comply with copyright laws.
  • Some materials cannot be copied due to condition or other reasons.

Notice

  • When you let us know materials and date you want to use by e-mail, we will send you a reply with details on how to use after confirming the materials.
  • There is no space for eating in the library.
  • Requests for photocopying or borrowing materials by mail from individual is not accepted. Please contact the library of your current institution or your local public library.
