Admission

Current members of the University of Tokyo

  • A student ID or faculty ID card (with an IC chip) is required to enter the General Library.
  • In some cases, it is necessary to register or renew your ID at your faculty library. If there is no library in your faculty, please ask the General Information desk.
  • If you don't have an ID card, please contact your faculty library.

Alumni

  • A "University of Tokyo Library Pass" is required to enter the General Library. With the pass, you can use the General Library during it is open. (On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, only books and journals in the open shelf section are available.) For more detail about how to get a library pass, please visit the following webpage.

    Without the pass, you can use the library on the same terms as non-members.

Others

  • Members of Japanese national universities
    Please fill out the application for a one-day pass and show us your University ID card at the reception desk during open hours. You can use the General Library not only on weekdays but also on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. (On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, only books and journals in the open shelf section are available.)
     
  • Members of the other universities
    Please fill out the application for a one-day pass and show us your University ID card at the reception desk from 9:00am to 17:00pm on weekdays. If you bring a letter of introduction , you can use the General Library continuously for up to 2 weeks including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. (On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, only books and journals in the open shelf section are available.)
     
  • Non-academic
    Please fill out the application for a one-day pass and show us your ID (passport, alien registration card ...etc.) at the reception desk from 9:00am to 17:00pm on weekdays.

Babies and Infants

  • Accompanied by ID holder
    No entry to the Reading room, Media Plaza, and stack. The facilities are not infants friendly in the library; the accompanied users will be responsible to prevent any accident.
    Please be informed that the library staff may ask the users and their babies/infants to leave if they are causing a disturbance to other users.
    The materials could be brought to the users by the library staff (weekdays: 8:30 - 20:00, 17:00 in March and August), please ask for the assistance.
     
  • Accompanied by Non-ID holders:No entry to the library.
