Requirements for admission to library

Persons affiliated with the University of Tokyo :
Persons showing an University ID card can enter at the entrance gate.

Persons from outside the University of Tokyo :
-- Alumni : Alumni showing a library pass for alumni can enter at the entrance gate.
-- Others : Please fill in the application for use of the library(one day ticket) at the entrance counter.

Requirements for reading in library

Openshelf books
Openshelf books are located on the 3rd floor (Japanere books) and the 4th floor (Japanese and western books).
Reference books are located in the reference room (1st floor).

Stacks
Access for materials in the stacks varies depending on the status of the user.

Persons entitled to enter the stacks are as follows : 3rd and 4th year undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty members.
1st and 2nd year undergraduate students, and persons from outside University of Tokyo need to apply.

Find out the call numbers of materials by searching OPAC or card catalog, fill in an application form and submit it to the Stack books/Journals Circulation Counter on the 1st floor.
Application is acceptable up to 5 items at a time.

Rare and valuable books
Application is needed ; University members must apply one day in advance.
Non-University members must apply 3 days in advance.

Materials not available for borrowing : Specially designated materials, reference books

Renewal : Materials can be renewed for one more loan period. Materials reserved by other users and overdue materials cannot be renewed.

Loan Reservation : Items checked out by other users may be reserved at the circulation counter, or by using Online reservations available through the Web request service menu.

Interlibrary Borrowing Service (University members only)

Privileges vary among library units.

Photocopying

Procedures for photocopying :
  1.Fill out an application form.
  Application forms incorporate a declaration which the reader must sign safeguarding
  the rights of the copyright owner, if copyright subsists.

  2.submit the form to the Photocopying Service Desk.
  Self-service copiers located on the 1st floor are also available.

Materials for which photocopying is prohibited :
Damaged materials and rare books are available to make photographic reproduction only.

Photographic reproduction :
The Photography Department is equipped to deal with all types of photographic reproduction as well as photocopy prints.
Application are accepted at the Stack Books/Journals Circulation Counter.

Document delivery service (University members only) :

ILL Service for Non-University Members

ILL service provides access to the holdings of the General Library through interlibrary loan of original material.

Eligibility :
University libraries in Japan ; Loan service is available.
