Tradition and Change: Learning from the Royal Library in Copenhagen
(Talk Event Vol.9 / UTokyo New Library Project)
The University of Tokyo Library System is hosting a series of events to promote our New Library Project. For the 9th event, we have invited Ms.Charlotte Rohde, the advisor to the University Librarian, Royal Library of Demark.
The Black Diamond is a modern waterfront extension to the Royal Library of Denmark’s old building on Slotsholmen in central Copenhagen, Denmark, completed in 1999. Its quasi-official nickname is a reference to its polished black granite cladding and irregular angles. The Black Diamond consists of Denmark’s national library and university library for the University of Copenhagen, so also in that context, it is a very characteristic building.
The aim of this event is to enrich knowledge about the way of combining a traditional library and an innovative library, as well as the way of combining a public library and a university library. Through the event, we will be able to discover possibilities for our future library.
