Eligibility for use of library

Persons affiliated with the University of Tokyo and persons from outside the University of Tokyo (Use of the library is permitted to any persons wishing to use the library for educational or research purposes.)

Requirements for admission to library

* Only users with Student's (Employee) ID of Pass to Univ. of Tokyo Library System can enter the Library during 20:00-22:45.

Members of the University of Tokyo
Student's (Employee) ID of Pass to Univ. of Tokyo Library System (IC card type, Bar code type) is required to pass through the entrance gate

Users from outside the University of Tokyo
Present an identification card and fill out the visitor's form.

Requirements for reading in library

Procedure : None (except materials in closed stacks)

Hours :
- Openshelf materials : same as regular library hours
- Rare books, books in Japanese binding, doctoral theses, micro- forms, maps : weekdays 09:00-17:00

Borrowing (Limited to the Members of the University of Tokyo)

Borrowing is not available after 20:00 on weekdays. ABC (Automatic Book Circulation machine) is available after 20:00 on weekdays(Only BOOKS or JOURNALS with bar code on the cover).

Requirements : Student's (Employee) ID of Pass to Univ. of Tokyo Library System (IC card type, Bar code type) is required for borrowing.

Materials not available for borrowing : Rare books, reference books, abstracts, indexes, Books in Japanese binding, doctoral dissertations, and newspapers (except reduced-print editions)

Maximum number of books : No limit

Length of borrowing term :
- Books: 2 weeks
- Journals: 1 week

Other information on borrowing books : Library materials may not be borrowed by persons from outside University of Tokyo. Persons from outside University of Tokyo may, however, borrow books through interlibrary loans. (Note that some restrictions exist.)

1. Private expense : Coin-operated self-service photocopying machines
(We are not able to exchange money)
2. Intra-university Photocopying Service at public expense : Copy service photocopiers

Procedures for photocopying : Fill out an application form and submit the form at the service counter.

Materials for which photocopying is prohibited: Rare books, materials from before 1900, and any other specially designated materials.

Photocopying hours :
1. Private expense : Weekdays 09:00-22:15,    Saturdays  12:00-16:30    *09:00-30 minutes before the closing time during the vacation periods
2. Intra-university Photocopying Service at public expense : Weekdays 10:00-11:30 and 13:00-16:30

Cost per sheet copied :
1. Private expense : 10 yen (color 50 yen)
2. Intra-university Photocopying Service at public expense : 20 yen (color 60 yen)

Intra-university photocopying service : Both order and accept.
(Orders by mail may be accepted only from libraries in other campuses)
