Visiting libraries of other institutions in Japan
Notes
- Komaba Library will inquire the institution or the library you visit. When requesting the letter of introduction, specify the material and the date of your visit.
- It may take some time to get a response from other institutions. Please apply 1 or 2 weeks in advance of your visit. However, applying 3 weeks before the visit is better when consulting laboratory materials or rare books.
- The letter of introduction will be issued after we get a response from the holding library. You may need to drop by and pick up the letter at the reference counter.
Application by e-mail
You can request issuing a letter of introduction by e-mail with the following format.
If you don't receive a response from us within 3 business days, please ask the Information Service Section.
E-mail subject:
"Application for a letter of introduction (Name, User ID)"
- "User ID" is a series of 10-digit numbers, your UTokyo Account or Library card ID.
E-mail body:
- Name
- User ID
- Affiliation and status
- Specify your department, course, and grade.
- Phone number
- Purpose of your visit
- Describe your purpose and research theme in detail.
example: "To conduct research on the transition of laws and ordinances related to libraries."
- Describe your purpose and research theme in detail.
- The name of the library or institution
- Date of visit
- Please give first to the third choice.
- Bibliographic information
- It must be in detail; The title, author, volume number, call number, and other numbers that help to identify the material.
- Name the catalog you searched. e.g., CiNii Books, OPAC

Application at a reference counter
Fill in the application form at the reference counter.
It is encouraged to search the holding library's OPAC in advance and bring the printouts along.
